Cedar Street will reopen to local traffic in Norwalk on Monday, Nov. 11. The project will move on to replacing the bridges on Taylor Avenue and Fairfield Avenue, closing both streets over I-95.
Unlike the previous work on Cedar Street and Stuart Avenue, the replacements of the Taylor and Fairfield Avenue bridges will require nighttime lane closures on I-95.
Taylor Avenue will be closed between Church Street and Route 1 and Fairfield Avenue between Reed Street and Route 1. Detour signs will be in place to direct motorists around the areas.
These closures are expected to last at least a year.
I-95 northbound will see lane closures on Monday through Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.; on Thursday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.; and on Friday from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
I-95 southbound will have lanes closed on Monday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. and on Friday from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Route 1 and local roads will see lane closures on Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation recommends that commuters prepare for extra driving time around local roads in Norwalk. Weather delays could also extend the schedule of construction.
The $42 million project, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2015, will provide an additional lane in each direction of the highway between Exits 14 and 15 in the hopes of easing congestion and making the roadway safer. Connecticut Avenue will also see major improvements.
