Hurricane Irene Expected to Hit Midday Sunday

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — You can watch Gov. Dannel Malloy's Hurricane Irene press conferences online Saturday.

With the storm's heavier wind and rain expected to start hitting Fairfield County early Sunday, Malloy will give updates on the state's preparations at 10 a.m., 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday. Irene is expected to make landfall just east of Bridgeport as a Category 1 hurricane at about 2 p.m. Sunday.

President Obama signed an emergency declaration for the state of Connecticut on Saturday morning. That means federal money will be available to help the state recover from any damage caused by the hurricane.
