How Can the U.S. Create Jobs, Norwalk?

NORWALK, Conn. – Congressman Jim Himes is holding a town hall meeting in Norwalk Saturday to gather input on federal efforts to create jobs, reduce the deficit, and get the economy back on track.

The meetings will take place in advance of the Thanksgiving deadline by which the so-called "Super Committee" must recommend at least $1.2 trillion in deficit reduction measures to Congress. But Himes, a Democrat who represents much of Fairfield County, says he has been leading an effort to urge a more comprehensive $4 trillion solution.

Most economists recognize $4 trillion as the level of deficit reduction necessary to achieve long-term fiscal sustainability, he says.

Himes will talk to residents from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday at Norwalk Community College's GenRe Forum, located on the East Campus at 188 Richards Ave.

He will also speak with the public from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at UConn of Stamford, in the GenRe Auditorium, located at 1 University Place.
