Himes Supports Troop Withdrawals in Afghanistan

U.S. Rep. Jim Himes, D-Conn., said he was looking forward to hearing President Obama's plans to draw down U.S. troops in Afghanistan. White House press secretary Jay Carney said Tuesday the president's address on the plan would be televised Wednesday.

"We continue to sacrifice too many American lives and spend too much money fighting a never-ending conflict in Afghanistan," said Himes. "The scope of our mission there is both too large and unclear, and it's time to redirect our attention and resources toward our economy, deficit reduction and desperately needed investment here at home."

Obama will address the nation from the White House at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
