FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. Gusts of up to 50 mph could cause isolated power outages in Fairfield County as a cold front moves through the region Friday, the National Weather Service says.
The front also brings a "slight chance" of snow showers after 2 p.m., as the temperature drops to near 30, the Weather Service says.
A wind advisory is in effect for Fairfield County through midnight tonight. Winds are expected to blow between 24 and 28 mph, with gusts near 50 mph possible, the Weather Service says.
Winds could knock down tree limbs and branches, causing "isolated power outages," the National Weather Service says.
Gov. Dannel Malloy Friday morning partially activated the state's emergency operations center. This will allow us to quickly respond to and coordinate any problems that may arise as a result of todays high winds," Malloy said in a statement that did not mention possible power outages.
The Martin Luther King Day weekend will be colder, with temperatures around freezing during the day dropping into the teens at night.
