The Norwalk Citizen made the announcement at the bottom of the front page of the Dec. 20 edition by editor John Schwing.
"The challenges of today's changing media landscape -- in print and online -- dictate that Hearst Connecticut Media Services, publisher of the Norwalk Citizen, focus resources where they will be most productive for the long term," Schwing said.
The company will still cover the area through The Advocate, he said.
The Citizen had no full-time employees remaining, with many of its stories written by freelance writers, according to The Hour.
Hearst will also reportedly merge the Greenwich Citizen with its daily publication, Greenwich Time.
"Thank you, Norwalk," Schwing concluded. "It has been an honor."
