FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Have an idea or a complaint about public transportation in lower Fairfield County? The Connecticut Public Transportation Commission will hold a public hearing Wednesday, May 8, to gather testimony from residents.
The meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. at Norwalk City Hall, 125 East Ave. It will be the first of the commission's three hearings statewide this spring to hear from the public, transportation providers, public officials and other entities concerning the operation of public transportation services, dial-a-ride and handicapped-accessible transportation and other issues.
The commission said it wants to hear whether services are meeting public needs and about improvements or new services needed. Local and regional issues of particular interest include improvements to the New Canaan and Danbury branches of Metro-North, the potential relocation of the Bridgeport to Port Jefferson ferry terminal in Bridgeport, Metro-North New Haven Line service, Norwalk Transit District (WHEELS) service, the redevelopment of the Stamford Transportation Center, interregional bus service, funding to support transit services and other more.
The commission will use the testimony to prepare recommendations for its annual report to the governor, the Commissioner of Transportation and the Transportation Committee of the General Assembly.
The Connecticut Public Transportation Commission is part of the Connecticut Fund for the Environment.
In addition to the May 8 public hearing in Norwalk, the commission’s other hearings this spring will be May 14 in Putnam at Putnam Town Hall and May 22 in Bristol at Bristol City Hall.
