Grants Going To Norwalk Schools, Mill Hill, Lockwood-Mathews, Aquarium

NORWALK, Conn. --The State Bond Commission is expected to approve over $3 million grant-in-aid funding in total for the Mill Hill Historic Park, the Maritime Aquarium, the Lockwood Mathews Mansion, and the Norwalk Public Schools, according to an announcement by Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff (D-Norwalk) .

“Mill Hill, the Maritime Aquarium, and the Lockwood Mathews Mansion are cultural gems in our community,” he said.

“This state funding will provide critical upgrades, renovations, and improvements to keep these places in top form for years to come. Also, the additional education funding will provide extra support for our school budget and help reduce the burden on local property taxes. Thanks to Gov. Malloy for his support for this important funding for Norwalk.”

The grants are as follows:

The Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk will receive $2 million in grant-in-aid funding for finance various renovations, improvements and technology upgrades. The improvements include electrical, mechanical and fire safety improvements, IMAX technology upgrades and renovations to tanks and exhibits.
The Mill Hill Historic Park will receive $625,000 in grant-in-aid funding to the city of Norwalk for renovations and improvements to the historic buildings at the park.
The Lockwood Mathews Mansion will receive $500,000 in grant-in-aid funding for ADA compliance improvements.
The Norwalk Public Schools will receive $328,391 in grant-in-aid funding as a part of the Alliance Districts program for general improvements to school buildings.

The funding can be used on projects such as improvements to windows, doors, boilers, heating and ventilation systems, communications/technology systems, lockers, floors, ceilings, restrooms, lighting, energy efficiency, entryways, driveways, parking areas, play areas, athletic fields, various equipment, roof repairs and installation or upgrade of security equipment.

Norwalk is also scheduled to receive $17.5 million to finance design, engineering and construction of a new dock yard on the Danbury branch line in Norwalk under the Let’s Go! CT program.

The request for funding is included on this month’s State Bond Commission agenda and is expected to be approved at its meeting Jan. 29.
