Gingerbread Event Benefits Crisis Center

Lynn Tusa decorated an entire house. And it didn't take too long – only the better part of an evening.

Tusa's house was made of gingerbread, and she decorated it as part of the Gingerbread Houses & Cocktails for a Cause event last year benefitting the Stamford-based Center for Sexual Assault Crisis Counseling and Education. The second annual event will take place 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday at Innis Arden Golf Club, Old Greenwich. The organization serves eight towns in lower Fairfield County, including Stamford, Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Weston, Westport and Wilton.

Tusa is director of development at the center. Everyone attending Wednesday's fundraiser will receive an assembled gingerbread house to decorate, she said. Prizes will be given in several categories, including best of the table, best of evening and the house you would want to be marooned in during a snowstorm, among others.

A light dinner buffet and wine will be served. Tickets are $100. All proceeds benefit the center, which offers free, 24-hour assistance to women, children and men who have been sexually assaulted. To prevent youngsters from being victimized, the center also provides age-appropriate safety classes for children ages 5 up and for teenagers through age 18.

Stamford resident Ellen Marment is chairing the event this year. In a statement, she urged area residents to support the fundraiser. "Join us for an evening of good cheer while decorating your very own gingerbread house, sipping wine and chatting with friends," she said.
