Giants' Winning Rally Thrills Fairfield County

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – It went down to the last second of the game Sunday night, but fans of the New York Giants were jubilant as their team beat the New England Patriots, 21-17, in Super Bowl XLVI.

Fans at O'Neill's Irish Pub in Norwalk were screaming "Let’s go Giants" through the last three minutes of the game. The roar of the cheers was deafening as the final seconds counted down to zero.

"There’s a lot of happy people in here," said Donny Leahy, an owner of O’Neill’s.

This is the second time the Giants have beaten the Patriots in the Super Bowl in the past 10 years. Most recently, in 2008, the Giants won, 17-14.

New York fans were excited by the victory. Joe Kenefic, a Redding resident, goes to O’Neill’s every year to watch the Super Bowl with his family. They’re all Giants fans, and Kenefic said he was worried at the start. But by the time the game ended, he was too happy to even speak.

For Fairfield resident James Karageorge, it was a great game – even though his team lost. Normally a Dallas Cowboys fan, Karageorge was rooting for the Patriots this time.

"It’s a great game so far," Karageorge said during the third quarter when the Patriots were ahead, 17-9. He and his family have enjoyed the last six Super Bowls at the Black Bear Saloon in Norwalk. By the end, he wondered how the Giants had stolen the game away from the Patriots - again.

And regardless of the outcome, fans on both sides agreed it was a great game.

At half time, Dave Kebber of Fairfield said, "It’s been a great game, very entertaining." Kebber said his team, the Giants, had a great chance at taking the game back as he watched at Archie Moore's in Fairfield.

Norwalk resident Judith Johnson was pulling for the Giants and was delighted when they won. She said it had “been a great game and a great season.”
