Norwalk Town Clerk Andy Garfunkel postponed a press conference set for Tuesday night out of respect for the family of a young Norwalk soldier killed in Afghanistan. Garfunkel was expected to use the press conference to announce his candidacy for mayor.
The Department of Defense reported Tuesday that Pfc. David R. Fahey Jr., 23, had been killed in the Kandahar region of Afghanistan by an improvised explosive device.
Yesterday, we lost another brave solider fighting for our country and its freedoms, Garfunkel said.
This evening, I expected to make a formal announcement, he added, but instead I think it is more appropriate for all residents to reflect on the sacrifice of this brave soldier and his family.
