Friday Is a Go for Norwalk's Oyster Fest

NORWALK, Conn. – The 34th annual Oyster Festival will go on as planned all three days of the weekend — Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There was some doubt – the Norwalk Seaport Association announced Thursday morning that wet field conditions at Veterans Memorial Park might keep the event closed Friday. But volunteers assessed the state of the fields and determined that most of the park is OK, and the show would go on.

Unfortunately, the Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned grilling and smoking contests and the BMX Show are canceled because of poor field conditions in those areas. However, barbeque cookers and vendors will still be at the festival.

Oyster Festival Chairman Jerry Toni explained the decision in a statement: "The Norwalk Seaport Association feels the park will be in good condition. The forecast is for improved weather on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and we are looking forward to a successful weekend."
