Freeze Warning Issued For Norwalk After Heavy Winds Slam Area

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- After heavy winds buffeted Fairfield County throughout Sunday, a freeze warning was issued for the overnight hours, the National Weather Service said.

The freeze warning is in effect from 3 to 8 a.m. Monday across the region, including southern Fairfield County and southern Westchester County. An earlier wind advisory was canceled. 

The hazards include freezing temperatures early Monday morning with a low in the 20s to 30s. 

The freezing temperatures will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation. 

The strong winds Sunday caused hundreds of power outages across Fairfield County. The strongest wind gusts recorded Sunday included 49 mph at Danbury Airport and 48 mph at Sikorsky Airport in Bridgeport.

Overnight wind chills will be between 20 and 25 degrees with northwest wind of 10 mph, gusting as high as 21 mph.

Early Monday will see wind chill values between 15 and 25 degrees with west winds of 7 to 15 mph.

The day will grow nicer, with sunny conditions and a high near 57 degrees.
