Freeze Warning In Effect For Fairfield County, Hundreds Without Power

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- A freeze warning has been issued as hundreds of Eversource and United Illuminating customers throughout Fairfield County were without power Sunday afternoon as a result of high winds and overnight precipitation.

The freeze warning remains in effect from 8 p.m. Sunday to 10 a.m. Monday, the National Weather Service said. The high wind warning that had been issued for the county is canceled. 

Temperatures will be in the lower 30s, with the coldest temperatures expected Sunday night through early Monday morning. The National Weather Service warns that the freezing temperatures will kill sensitive plants and crops. Sensitive plants should be protected and brought indoors, if possible.

  • Bethel: 2 outages
  • Brookfield: 1 outage
  • Danbury: 117 outages
  • Darien: 253 outages
  • Greenwich: 228 outages
  • Monroe: 18 outages
  • New Canaan: 140 outages
  • New Fairfield: 1 outage
  • Newtown: 446 outages
  • Norwalk: 4 outages
  • Redding: 78 outages
  • Ridgefield: 14 outages
  • Sherman: 1 outage
  • Stamford: 37 outages
  • Weston: 18 outages
  • Westport: 15 outages
  • Wilton: 18 outages

United Illuminating reported the following outages as of 3:30 p.m.:

  • Bridgeport: 1 outages affecting 8 customers
  • Easton: 2 outages affecting 59 customers
  • Fairfield: 3 outages affecting 3 customers
  • Shelton: 1 outage affecting 1 customer
  • Trumbull: 2 outages affecting 19 customers
