Former Connecticut Gov. John Rowland Found Guilty Of Conspiracy

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Former Connecticut Gov. John Rowland was found guilty on seven counts of conspiring to violate and obstruct federal campaign reporting laws on Friday afternoon by a jury in New Haven.

Rowland faces up to 57 years in prison. He will be sentenced in December. Rowland, a Republican, served as Connecticut governor from 1995 to 2004. The Waterbury native resigned from office during a corruption investigation, and he later served 10 months in federal prison. He was released from prison in 2006.

Rowland ran afoul of the law this time by failing to report his $35,000 in consulting fees from Brian Foley as a campaign adviser for Lisa Wilson-Foley. Rowland’s legal team argued he worked for Apple Healthcare, and his work for the Wilson-Foley campaign was voluntary.
