Floodwaters Rising in Fairfield County

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Extensive flooding was reported throughout Fairfield County as Tropical Storm Irene pounded across the state Sunday morning.

Stamford resident Chris Spiller submitted these photos of flooding at Holly Pond in Stamford and of Weed Avenue looking across the pond toward Darien. 

According to the National Weather Service, tropical storm conditions will continue through the rest of the day, with hurricane conditions possible. Storms may produce rain with winds of 35 to 45 mph possible with gusts as high as 55 mph. On Sunday night, winds will decrease to 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 43 mph. All rain is expected to clear before 8 p.m.
