Flags Honor Dorothy Height

Flags flew at half-staff today, Thursday, in honor of the late civil rights leader Dorothy Height. Gov. M. Jodi Rell ordered the flags on public buildings lowered from dawn until dusk. In a statement, President Barack Obama called Height "the godmother of the civil rights movement." Funeral services for Height were held today in Washington, D.C.

"Dorothy Height was one of the pillars of the civil rights movement," said Lindsay Curtis, president of the Norwalk chapter of the NAACP. Curtis noted that the primary focus of Height's work was always children and education, the same priorities of the local NAACP.
