Fire Warnings Remain High for Fairfield County

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — A fire warning has gone out for Fairfield County for most of Monday due to strong winds and dry conditions.

A "Red Flag Warning" was issued for Southern Connecticut from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service says there will be "a west wind between 21 and 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph."

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says the state traditionally sees fire warnings through most of April and into May.

The department's website says: "If you spot a forest fire, remain calm, go to the nearest telephone and dial 911 to report the fire as quickly as possible to your local fire department. Calmly tell the emergency dispatcher when you saw it and where you saw it. Stay on the telephone until the dispatcher tells you to hang up."
