DARIEN, Conn. A 42-year-old man who threatened to harm President George W. Bush was arrested at the Interstate 95 rest stop in Darien on Friday afternoon by state and federal authorities, The Hartford Courant reported on its website.
Troy Eugene Stafford, who was wanted on a Federal Escape Warrant out of Illinois, had walked away from a halfway house in Marion, Ill., where he had been serving his sentence, state police said. He had been indicted by a federal grand jury in 2006 for threatening the life of then-president Bush.
The U.S. Secret Service tipped off state police, who found a man matching Stafford's description at the southbound rest stop, arrested him and took him to Troop G in Bridgeport, where he was held until he was turned over to U.S. Marshals.
According to the Madison Record, a newspaper based out of Illinois, Stafford sent letters to Bush threatening him and detailing how he would inflict bodily harm upon him.
