Faithful Celebrate Easter at Sunrise

Members of the United Church of Rowayton started their Easter celebration before dawn Sunday, gathering at Bayley Beach for a sunrise service that began at 6 a.m. The Rev. John Livingston led the congregation in song and told the Biblical story of the resurrection of Christ--the gradual transition from darkness to light a metaphor, Rev. Livingston said, for the Easter story of hope and faith replacing darkness and despair.

United Church has held a sunrise service at the beach for more than 20 years. After the service, parishioners gathered nearby for a breakfast of muffins, eggs, coffee and hot chocolate.
