FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. As if Monday morning's storms weren't enough, the National Weather Service has issued a second severe storm warning for Fairfield County Monday afternoon.
The latest update at 3:27 p.m. said the service's radar was tracking a series of "strong thunderstoms" in a line moving eastward at 25 mph.
According to the warning, the storms will hit Danbury by 3:35 p.m. and will have winds of up to 40 mph.
Frequent cloud to ground lightning and small hail are expected in addition to heavy rainfall with "rates of up to 2 inches an hour," the service reports.
They warn that there could be water pooling on roads and "minor flooding" in areas with poor drainage.
Residents are reminded that "lightning is one of nature's number one killers" and that if you can hear thunder you are close enough to be struck by lightning. When you hear thunder, you should immediately move to a safe area.
