Fairfield County Stays Under Flash Flood Watch Until Tuesday Evening

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- With no end in sight to the rain, a flash flood watch remains in effect for Fairfield County through 10 p.m. Tuesday, the National Weather Service said Monday. 

"A plume of moisture extending up the East Coast from the Gulf of Mexico will continue a pattern of heavy showers and thunderstorms for the region through Tuesday evening," the weather service said.

Another 1 to 2 inches of additional rain is forecast, the weather service said. The heaviest rain was expected Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon, with flooding possible. 

Wednesday brings a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon, with a high near 84. 

On Thursday, Independence Day, the chance of showers is only 30 percent, mainly after noon, with a high near 85.
