Detour: Strong Winds Blow Down Tree, Wires In Norwalk; Roads Closed

NORWALK, Conn. — A large power outage was reported Tuesday afternoon in Norwalk after strong winds blew down a large maple tree near the Norwalk Green, according to Eversource and The Hour.

Eversource confirmed a large outage of 509 customers — about 2 percent of the city — as of 2 p.m. Tuesday.  

As of 2:20 p.m., the number of outages had been reduced to 188 customers, Eversource said. 

East Avenue is closed between Westport Avenue/Route 1 and Morgan Avenue due to the downed tree, utility poles and wires, police said. 

Policed urged motorists to avoid the area and seek a detour.
