Derailed Train Causes Delays on New Haven Line

Noon update: Metro-North reports good service with its trains on the New Haven Line by midday Tuesday.

Original story: Commuters on Metro-North’s New Haven Line can expect delays throughout Tuesday morning because of a train that derailed between Bridgeport and Fairfield late Monday night. Metro-North says trains traveling from New Haven to Stamford will be 20 to 30 minutes behind schedule, while trains heading toward New Haven will be delayed 30 to 40 minutes.

A Metro-North spokesman told WTNH News that a train carrying stone ballast derailed at about 11:45 p.m. Monday. A shuttle bus carried passengers from Fairfield to Bridgeport during the early-morning hours, but by 8 a.m. the tracks were cleared. Delays should last throughout Tuesday morning as Metro-North continues to work in the area.
