Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms were possible, with damaging winds, small hail and heavy rain predicted. Localized urban flooding was also possible.

Temperatures hit or approached 90 degrees on Monday throughout Fairfield County under bright, sunny skies.

Also, an air quality alert is in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday with temperatures again expected to hit 90 degrees with bright summer sun, the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection said.

An air quality action day means ground level ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards.

Active children and adults, and people with respiratory disease, such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor exertion, the department warned. Respiratory symptoms and breathing discomfort are increasing likely in active children and adults with respiratory disease, such as asthma, under such conditions.
