According to WalletHub’s most recent estimates, lung cancer accounts for $12.1 billion worth of total cancer-care costs and $36.1 billion in lost productivity.

WalletHub ranked the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia based on 11 key metrics such as air quality, the price of a cigarette pack and death rates from lung cancer.

Here is how Connecticut ranked in the criteria, (1=Best; 25=Average):

3rd – Lowest Number of Adult Tobacco Users per Capita
3rd – Highest Cigarette Taxes
20th – Death Rate from Lung Cancer
19th – Percent of Smokers Who Attempted to Quit
2nd – Number of Available Cost-Free Services to Quit Tobacco Use
4th – Highest Price of a Cigarette Pack

Hawaii ranked No 1. Meanwhile, Missouri ranked No. 51.
