Connecticut DOT Completes Work Early On I-95 In New Haven

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Northbound highway drivers in Fairfield County can breathe a bit easier: Construction work has been completed early on the traffic shifts in the I-95 northbound/I-91 northbound area between Exit 46 and Exit 48, the Department of Transportation announced on its website.

The work was completed Saturday morning, a full 24 hours ahead of schedule, the DOT said. Lanes on I-95 had been closed in New Haven between Exit 46 for Long Wharf Drive and Exit 48 for I-91 northbound to shift the traffic.

DOT modified the work plans and accelerated the schedule after the train derailment in Bridgeport in an effort to avoid further travel delays, the DOT said.

Travel lanes on I-95 northbound/I-91 northbound in that area in New Haven have been reopened. Work scheduled to be finished Sunday was completed ahead of schedule Saturday morning.

The DOT commended the contractor, O&G/Tutor & Perini Joint Venture, for its extraordinary response to the request to accelerate this traffic shift .

This segment of the project is one of a series of many traffic shifts as work progresses on the construction of the Pearl Harbor Memorial (Q) Bridge, reconstruction of the I-95 / I-91 / Route 34 Interchange and other projects that are part of the I-95 New Haven Harbor Crossing Corridor Improvement Program.
