Parents, caregivers and those with attention deficits and learning disabilities will be given information on important planning skills at a conference Oct. 16 in Stamford. Speech/language pathologist Sarah Ward will give the keynote talk, "Executive Function Skills That Last a Lifetime."
The daylong session, sponsored by the Connecticut Association of Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities event, is open to the public and provides support, information, strategies and answers, according to organizers.
Ward, a faculty member at Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions, will focus on planning skills used by children, adolescents and adults. The conference's theme is "Learning Disabilities and Attention Deficits Through the Lifespan." In addition to Ward's presentation, it will feature 25 speakers and 18 workshops on topics ranging from dyslexia to study skills to college preparation to medication alternatives. A bookstore and exhibitors from throughout the state also will be part of the program.
The event is "by far our most popular and in-demand program," said Westport resident Peter Maloney, president of the CACLD board. "Every year we get feedback from our attendees that the information presented is invaluable. There's really nothing else like it presented in the state."
