CL&P: Wind Causes Power Outages In Norwalk

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- With strong winds blowing and rain falling throughout Fairfield County on Friday morning, Connecticut Light & Power was reporting power outages in Greenwich, Stamford, New Canaan, Darien and Danbury.

According to the CL&P website, as of 11:30 a.m. the outages included: 

  • 261 customers in Danbury;
  • 39 customers in Darien; 
  • 1 customer in Greenwich;
  • 183 customers in New Canaan, or about 2 percent of the town;
  • 1 customer in Norwalk;
  • 5 customers in RIdgefield; and 
  • 300 customers in Stamford. 

A wind advisory is in effect from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday for all of Fairfield County, Connecticut, New York and New England, the National Weather Service said.

The hazards include strong and possibly damaging winds. In addition, showers are likely all day with temperatures in the 60s.

Winds are south to southwest from 15 to 25 mph with gusts of up to 50 mph. The strongest winds are expected into Friday afternoon.

Downed trees and power lines are likely, with the possibility of power outages. The strong winds will also make it difficult to drive large vehicles. The weather service urges drives to use extra caution under these windy conditions.
