Clinton Holcomb, 88, WWII Vet, Formerly Of Norwalk

NORWALK, Conn. – Clinton Chester Holcomb of Moodus, Conn., formerly of Norwalk, died Aug. 1. He was 88. 

He was born Oct. 1, 1923, in Watervliet, N.Y., to Clinton W. and Mildred Oathut Holcomb. He grew up and lived most of his life in Marvin Beach in Norwalk. Holcomb was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served as a communications operator aboard the USS Santee. 

He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, among other honors and distinctions. He had a passion for swimming, was an avid stamp collector and a New York Yankees fan. 

Holcomb is survived by his wife, Marion Gomola Holcomb, of Moodus; a daughter, Kimberly (Ed) Dodge, of Moodus; a son, C. Peter (Laurie) Holcomb, of New Hartford, Conn.; four grandchildren, a niece and several nephews. Holcomb was predeceased by two brothers, Clifford L. and Benjamin O. Holcomb. 

Graveside services with military honors will be held at noon Saturday at First Church Cemetery in Moodus. There are no calling hours. Biega Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
