NORWALK, Conn. A car fire on Route 7 brought the Norwalk Fire Department to Exit 3 at 9:38 a.m. Sunday. No injuries were reported.
The driver of a 2005 Nissan Maxima traveling north told firefighters he heard a strange noise from the engine and said a passerby motioned for her to pull over. The passenger saw smoke coming from the engine and then flames from under the car, the department reported.
A second vehicle pulled over to attempt to help with a fire extinguisher.
Traffic was stopped northbound on the connector for about 10 minutes while firefighters extinguished the fire. Once the fire was under control and equipment was picked up, the travel lanes were reopened, a statement from the department said. The car was towed from the highway.
The firefighters remained on the scene until 10:20 a.m.
