Five volunteers set up cots last night at Brien McMahon, to serve as shelter from the storm, but no one showed up. The shelter opened late, at 9 p.m. We couldnt get in here right away because trees were down at both entrances, said Norman Guimond, Red Cross volunteer shelter manager. The high school is currently running on emergency power, which Guimond said limits resources there. But Michelle DeLuca, the associate emergency manager for the city, wants to keep the school open until 5 p.m. Sunday, just in case residents need it.
Although no one stayed overnight, one family showed up to shower, Guimond said. But don't bother trying this yourself. The hot water is gone.
