Update, 10 a.m., Tuesday: FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Rain will be heavy at times today in Fairfield County bringing a risk of flooding through Tuesday afternoon, the National Weather Service says. Even after the flood risk diminishes, the rain may continue Wednesday and Thursday, the Weather Service says.
Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center now predicts that Hurricane Katia will remain out at sea.
[UPDATE, 4 p.m. Monday] A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for Fairfield County through Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Showers and thunderstorms Monday afternoon into Tuesday could produce rainfall of more than 1 inch per hour capable of producing urban flooding, the weather service warns.

During the day Monday, there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms, which are more likely after 4 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Otherwise, it will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 77 on what is traditionally seen as the last day of summer.
But a Hazardous Weather Outlook warns that a slow-moving cold front and increasing tropical moisture brings the possibility of heavy rain late Monday through early Tuesday morning. Localized flash flooding will be possible, just as the kids are preparing to go back to school.
