BMW Recalls Nearly 200,000 Cars

German luxury automaker BMW has voluntarily recalled nearly 200,000 cars in the U.S. to fix a leak in the power-breaking system.

BMW of North America submitted a letter Thursday to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration to recall the V8- and V12-powered BMW 5 Series, 6 Series, 7 Series and Rolls Royce Phantom models manufactured from 2002 to 2010.

According to BMW spokesman Thomas Plucinsky, the vehicles may develop a leak in the breaking system that could potentially cause a vacuum loss, resulting in a decrease in the power-breaking assistance. The auto giant decided to recall all of the affected models to make sure the vehicles are running smoothly. No injuries or accidents have been reported.

The recalled models are:

• 2002-08 BMW 745i/Li, 750i/Li, 760i/Li

• 2007-08 BMW Alpina B7

• 2004-10 BMW 645i and 650i

• 2004-10 BMW 545i and 550i

• 2003-10 Rolls-Royce Phantom

Each BMW dealer will have inspection and repair procedures. Notices have been mailed to car owners with the vehicles asking them to schedule service appointments. Drivers who have experienced a loss in the power-braking assistance should have their car serviced immediately. For further information, contact BMW customer relations at 1-800-525-7417.
