Norwalk resident Felix Lopez confessed to Westport police that he robbed the TD Bank branch in Saugatuck last Friday, April 30. Lopez, 40, said he used the $569 he made off with from the heist to pay his rent.
An anonymous tipster saw images from bank security cameras on WTNH and contacted the police. During the investigation, detectives learned that Lopez was wanted in both Wilton and Norwalk on re-arrest warrants.
Lopez turned himself into the Bridgeport police on the re-arrest warrants. While he was there, Lopez admitted to the bank robbery. He was transported to Westport where he gave a statement and confessed. Lopez told Westport police he lost his home and was having trouble paying bills, which led to the decision to rob the bank.
Westport police charged Lopez with robbery second degree and larceny fifth degree. He is in custody on a $150,000 bond and will be arraigned at Norwalk Superior Court, May 4.
