NORWALK, Conn. AT&T customers are likely to experience better service now that the company has completed a key initiative, according to a statement. An enhancement of the wireless capacity and performance of AT&T's mobile broadband network is expected to add new layers of frequency, also known as carriers, to a cell site in Norwalk. This will allow AT&T to more efficiently manage available spectrum and increase mobile broadband capacity.
The company has added five new cell sites in Connecticut this year and deployed enhanced backhaul connections to enable 4G speeds, added capacity to more than 300 cell sites and expanded its mobile broadband network by enhancing seven cell sites, the statement says. From 2008 through 2010, AT&T has invested more than $750 million in its Connecticut wireline and wireless networks.
"Our goal is for our customers to have an extraordinary experience. As part of the Connecticut community, we're always looking for new opportunities to provide an enhanced customer experience, and our investment in the local wireless network is just one way we're accomplishing that," Steve Krom, vice president and general manager for AT&T New England, said in the statement.
"We welcome AT&T's investment in its network in Norwalk," state Sen. Bob Duff, vice chairman of the state Senate's Energy and Technology Committee, said in the statement. "Reliable wireless coverage for residents, local businesses and visitors is vital to the Norwalk's economic health. As folks become more and more tied to their wireless devices, it's comforting to know they can have dependable coverage in Norwalk."
