Apple Announces a New, Faster iPhone

GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich resident Eric Goldstein was standing outside the Apple store on Greenwich Avenue Wednesday afternoon with his iPhone just hours after Apple’s new CEO, Tim Cook, announced the new iPhone 4S. Unfortunately, he wasn’t planning to get the upgrade.

“I love the iPhone. All my friends have Droids, but I stick with the iPhone,” Goldstein said. “I recently got this one, but my family members are going to get the new one. They’re always trying to get the newest one.”

Cook introduced the new iPhone at a press conference in Cupertino, Calif. While the iPhone 4S looks identical to its predecessors, the company’s Website says it boasts higher- caliber features.

The new iPhone will be available on Sprint’s wireless network, in addition to AT&T’s and Verizon’s. It has an A5 processor, which promises to deliver graphics seven times faster and to deliver up to two times more power.

The phone’s new video camera will shoot high-definition and its camera offers 8 mega-pixel resolution and promises to improve photo quality. The company also claims the Retina display has the highest-resolution. Users can also make a FaceTime call that connects over Wi-Fi iPhone to iPhone, iPad2, iPod touch or Mac.

The new iPhone also marks the introduction of Siri, an intelligent assistant that allows users to vocally send messages, schedule meetings, take dictation and place calls. Users can even ask it questions and it will find what you’re looking for.

The phone can be ordered by presale starting Friday and will be in stores Oct. 14.
