Anonymous tips lead to arrest

Anonymous tips to the Norwalk Police Department's hotline led detectives to a suspect in last month's robbery at the Super Stop & Shop on Connecticut Avenue. On Tuesday morning, police arrested 34-year-old Christian Iannacone of 57 Soundview Ave. in Norwalk and charged him with robbery in the third degree and larceny in the second degree.

Police allege that, on March 14, Iannacone grabbed the wallet and debit card of a woman using the DVD kiosk at the store and then fled. Store surveillance cameras captured his image and the police distributed photos of the suspect on March 30. Within hours, the police received several anonymous tips.

NPD detective Tolnay usd the information provided by the public to locate an old mug shot of Iannacone. DMV records revealed the suspect owns a car similar to the one used in the robbery. After two witnesses identified Iannacone from a photo lineup, police officers arrested him at his home. The victim's wallet was found in a nearby storm drain.

The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned today in Norwalk Superior Court.

"The arrest was the direct result of the public/police partnership that is vital to solving crimes and improving the safety of a community," said Lt. Paul Resnick.
