Amtrak Service To Resume From New York To Boston

UPDATE 4:45 P.M.: The rail has been cleared, and Amtrak will be restoring Acela Express and Northeast Regional service on the Northeast Corridor between New York and Boston on Sunday afternoon.

The first northbound departure from New York Penn Station will be Train 194 at 5 p.m. The first southbound departure from Boston South Station will be Train 2259 at 4:10 p.m.

Passengers should expect delays through the New Haven area as a result of the derailed freight train that had been blocking the tracks since early Sunday morning.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. - A freight train derailed near New Haven and has blocked Amtrak service from New York to Boston.

There are crews on the scene to clear the tracks as quickly as possible, a statement from Amtrak said Sunday.

Passengers who paid for tickets, but would prefer to not use them can receive a voucher for future travel or a refund.

The service between New York and Washington D.C. has not been affected. And the Springfield Shuttle will operate as scheduled.
