After A Dry Year, Moderate Drought Conditions Declared In Norwalk

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Parts of Fairfield County and southwestern Connecticut are officially in a moderate drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Drought conditions are creeping into Fairfield County, especially along the coastline.

The immediate coastal regions of Fairfield County stretching into New Haven County have been declared as having moderate drought conditions. Bridgeport and the immediate surrounding area is currently 6.76 inches below normal for rainfall.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, moderate drought brings "some damage to crops and pastures; streams, reservoirs, or wells are low and some water shortages are developing or imminent."

In addition, the monitor warns that there could be possible voluntary water-use restrictions.

The rest of Fairfield County is slightly less dry, labeled as "abnormally dry" as opposed to being in a drought.

WXEdge.com, a Connecticut weather fanatic website, says snow will hopefully fix the drought but said long stretches of dry air can keep snow storms at bay.
