2nd Councilman To Run for Norwalk Town Clerk

Common Councilman David Jaeger has decided to run for Norwalk Town Clerk. Jaeger, a Democrat representing District A, signed the papers to form a campaign committee Wednesday in Andy Garfunkel’s office. Garfunkel, the current town clerk, will run for mayor.

Jaeger said his relationship with Garfunkel is one of the reasons he would be a good town clerk. “I think Andy has created such a strong legacy and done such a great job at that office, that I think that with his help, when he’s mayor, I think I can be a good partner with him with the relationship we’ve developed over the years,” Jaeger said.

He also has a strong business background and a desire to work with city residents. “I think, No. 1, I have the experience to do it,” Jaeger said. “I enjoy the city, I enjoy working with people in the city. I’m finishing up my first term on the Common Council, and I’ve always looked for the opportunity to advance past that.”

Jaeger has worked for the past six years at People’s United Bank in Bridgeport and has been assistant vice president for customer service there since July 2008. Before that, he was a legislative aide for more than two years in the Connecticut General Assembly.

The lifelong Norwalker is a notary public and a member of the Norwalk Exchange Club. He is a licensed Connecticut Life Insurance Producer. His education includes a bachelor's degree in political science from Sacred Heart University and an M.B.A. from the University of New Haven. He is married and is a graduate of Norwalk public schools.

“My experience working as a bank manager, working for a local Chamber of Commerce here in Greenwich as an ambassador, speaking with small businesses and helping citizens everyday, trying to find solutions to their needs to make their lives simpler, will carry over nicely into the role of the clerk,” he said.

His Republican opponent will likely be Rick McQuaid, who is now president of the Common Council.  “I welcome the challenge,” Jaeger said. “I like Rick, he’s been good to me. ... It’ll be interesting for sure. However, I think I have enough experience with my current duties and past duties to fulfill the duties of town clerk. I know I’ve got the support of Andy.”
