NORWALK, Conn. – Calf Pasture Beach in Norwalk was the site of William Raveis Real Estate’s second annual Raveis Ride + Walk benefit for the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation last month.

The event, combined with a Raveis Walk + Ride in Hingham, Mass., brought together more than 500 volunteers and participants for the events’ 25-mile ride, 12-mile ride, and 5K walk, with a total of $1 million collected in the two years the event has been held.

A total of 100 percent of the proceeds are going to the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation in Manhattan.

“This event is very meaningful and impactful, which is why we’ve had a great turnout,” said Ryan Raveis, president of William Raveis Real Estate. “We are proud to help scientists make great strides toward finding a cure for cancer. Every dollar that is raised during the Raveis Ride + Walk will fund the cancer scientists that have been chosen by Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation.”

William Raveis Real Estate, which is headquartered in Shelton, has participated in and funded several organizations, including the American Cancer Society, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Hope Lodge, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and the Normal F. Pfriem Breast Care Center over the years.

In January 2015, the William Raveis Charitable Fund broadened its reach to include support for all types of cancer, in part, through a partnership with the Damon Runyon Cancer Foundation, which works to fund cancer researchers in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of all forms of cancer.

“Scientists with Damon Runyon are making extraordinary steps forward in understanding how to tackle cancer, and we’re proud to support them with the money we have raised,” said Bill Raveis, chairman and CEO of William Raveis Real Estate. “Working with Damon Runyon will enable us to make a difference for those who are affected by cancer now and in the future. Damon Runyon has a unique approach focusing on rising stars capable of thinking outside-the-box. That’s exactly what we need in cancer research.”

Since 1946, Damon Runyon has invested more than $287 million in the best young minds for research. Many of the organization’s more than 3,460 scientists have made breakthroughs in the cancer is prevented, diagnosed and treated.
