Fairfield County's Plummer Is Oscar Bound

WESTON, Conn. – Don’t forget to cheer for Hollywood actor and Weston resident Christopher Plummer during the Feb. 26 Academy Awards. He is could very well take home the Best Supporting Actor prize for his role in the film “Beginners.”

In “Beginners,” Plummer plays Hal Fields, a widower who comes out of the closet to his son, played by Ewan McGregor. He is up against Kenneth Branagh in “My Week With Marilyn;” Jonah Hill in “Moneyball;” Nick Nolte in “Warrior;” and Max Von Sydow in “Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.”

The Canadian-born actor, a longtime Weston resident, is a major contender in the category. This year he has already won a Golden Globe Award and Critics Choice Award for his role in the Mike Mills film. He is also up for the BAFTA, Screen Actors and Independent Spirit awards.

This is the second nomination for Plummer, who first received the nod two years ago for his role as Leo Tolstoy in the film “The Last Station.”
