Ubiquitous Uggs Stand Tall on Wish Lists

Uggs are everywhere you look, and according to retailers, they're still a hot item for 2010 — and 2011. "I just about live in my Uggs for most of the year," says Fairfield resident Catherine Tarasoff, who works in New York.

Uggs are the wildly popular Australian-made sheepskin boots that seem to be in every woman's closet and on everyone's wish list for Christmas. Founded in 1979, Uggs have been featured on "Oprah's Favorite Things" five times in the last five years and as recently as October.

For girls (and some guys) in prekindergarten through college, Uggs are de rigueur with a pair of faded jeans and a North Face fleece. But trying to find Uggs in a store this holiday season might have been a little difficult; stores reported short supplies in the most popular colors and sizes.

"We're running low in the classic brown in most sizes now," says Darien Sports Shop salesperson Marissa De Souza.

Another option was to go online to find just the right pair — but beware of knock-offs, which won't be the same quality as the originals. "I bought a pair for my daughter online because I wanted to get the right size and color and many stores didn't have them," said Betty Andreessen of Fairfield.
