NORWALK, Conn. Thomas B. Haugh, a former Norwalk resident, died April 17 after a long battle with cancer. He was 80.
Born in Norwalk on July 17, 1931, he was the son of John Denis Haugh, DDS and Anne Burke Haugh. He graduated from Fairfield Preparatory School in 1949 and went on to receive a bachelor's degree from Columbia College in 1953. Haugh served in the US Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton from 1954 to 1956, earning the rank of captain.
Following his service, he attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a master's degree in biology. Haugh began his teaching career at Andrew Warde High School in Fairfield and later went on to teach biology, chemistry and general science at Staples High School in Westport for the next 31 years.
After his retirement in 1991, Haugh married Maureen Bradley and moved to Berkshire County, Mass. He was an active skier, golfer, reader, hockey player and fan. He was said to enjoy the simple things in life: family, a good book, the New York Times and watching hockey on television.
In addition to his wife, Maureen, Haugh is survived by two children, Heather Haugh Reynolds and Burke Haugh, both of Norwalk; a sister, Barbara, of Houston, Texas; a son-in-law, Adam; and two granddaughters. He was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia O'Connell Haugh, in 1988 and a brother, Dr. John Haugh, of West Hartford.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Norwalk. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery, also in Norwalk.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires or the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad. Magner Funeral Home, in Norwalk, is in charge of arrangements.
