Stamford Man Helps Raise Money for Cancer Center

Frank Colandro hasn’t let his battle with cancer slow him down. You can find him not only running Mama Carmela’s Deli in Darien, but also raising money for the Hope in Motion 16th Annual Walk, Run & Ride in Stamford on June 5. Participants choose whether to walk, run or ride in a road race starting and ending at Stamford’s Columbus Park. The event benefits the Carl & Dorothy Bennett Cancer Center.

The deli owner is just one of those raising money for the cancer center. Other fundraisers have included car washes and lemonade stands and bigger events such as singer Angelica Salem’s concert at the Palace Theater, which raised $50,000 for the cancer center.

“We see a surge of fundraising in late May and early June as we approach the Walk, Run & Ride, but it is important for the community to know fundraisers can be held at any time during the year, and the money raised will benefit the Bennett Cancer Center,” Erin O’Toole, manager of Hope in Motion, said in a press release.

Supporters can start their own fundraising efforts by visiting the Hope in Motion website or by contacting O’Toole at (203) 276-5920.
