Santa's Wish List is Too Close to Call

Fewer than 200 votes separates Stamford's Curtain Call, Inc. and the Norwalk Marching Bears in the Santa's Wish List competition. And with only eight days left, these too-close-to-call numbers are keeping members from both nonprofits on the edge of their seats.

"I feel like my days are completely consumed by watching the tote boards," said Lou Ursone with Curtain Call, Inc., the nonprofit theater that is currently in first place for the $10,000 grand prize. "The entire process the last few days has given me a greater appreciation for what Dan Malloy and Tom Foley went through on election night and the 48 hours immediately following the race for the governor's seat."

Chuck Goulart, president of Norwalk Marching Bears, said he too is constantly checking the leader board. And because the race is so close, he said reminding people to vote for the marching band every day is crucial.

"It's been flip-flopping between us: (Curtain Call, Inc.) seem to get a big surge during the day and we seem to get surges at night and I expect it to be like that for the remainder of the competition," Goulart said. "I'm always asking people, 'Did you vote today?'"

Both Goulart and Ursone said they've been using social networking websites like Facebook to get the vote out and have reached out to everyone they know. Though both are vying for the grand prize, Ursone and Goulart said they are thrilled for the opportunity and will be more than happy with any money they receive.

But let's not forget the other eight organizations in the race. Westport's CLASP Homes is currently in third place, Stamford's Ferguson Library is in fourth and Norwalk's STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way, is in fifth. Stay tuned to see who will win $10,000, because anything can happen in eight days.
