Salute This Weekend's Wild and Wonderful Events

Form your family fun brigade and fan out to salute this weekend's top ranked events  Here's the roll call:Rain or shine, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, the effervescent Milford Oyster Festival breaks out its attractions, including an extensive food court loaded with shellfish and more. Stick around for oyster shucking contests, rides, activities for kids and first rate entertainment -- The Marshall Tucker Band takes the main stage -- in this end-of-summer blowout.  For more information, visit its website.

Kids can virtually travel to Finland on Saturday from 2-3 p.m. at Stepping Stones Museum when New York City-based Finnish concert artist/entertainer Ulla Suokko, a virtuoso flutist and expressive pop/folk vocalist in many languages, engages them with her program "Sing with All your Senses." Enjoy an elegant bento box dinner followed by a concert of traditional Japanese music on Sat. at 6:30 p.m. at North Salem, New York's Hammond Museum's 45th Annual Moonviewing Concert. The Museum's Japanese Stroll Garden, glowing with paper lanterns, is a magical setting for this ancient custom, which every August the Museum celebrates. With the start of school sneaking up, Connecticut Science Center throws its Back 2 School Bash on Saturday and Sunday, to get kids pumped for returning to the classroom. Animal Embassy introduces its exotic animals while live science, music, face painting, airbrush tattoos, cool giveaways, and sneaky surprises are also sure to pique their interest -- along with the Science Center's 150+ hands-on exhibits to wander through. Farmers, vendors, lumberjack contests, border collie herding demonstrations, rides, arts and crafts, animals, food, marching bands and entertainment all converge on Sat. and Sun. at The Bridgewater Fair, one of Connecticut's best traditional overstuffed summer galas. Drop by Stamford Museum & Nature Center on Sat. and Sun. to catch the last two days of its exhibit "To the Moon: Snoopy Soars with NASA." Organized by California's Charles M. If your crew favors antique cars over museums or farm animals, head to the Antique Auto Show and Meet at Goshen Fairgrounds on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cars (and trucks and motorcycles) are the main event but food, music and a flea market are supporting acts.
