Publisher to Speak to Rotarians

Wilton Rotarians will hear the story behind the launch of this website and nine sister sites in Fairfield County at its Friday meeting. Editor and Publisher Carll Tucker will talk about the family of online news sites that he's bringing to Fairfield County, for up-to-the minute coverage of politics, sports, businesses, schools, real estate, neighbors and special events in every town.

"We are incredibly excited by the response we are getting," said Tucker, the former publisher of a community newspaper group based in Cross River, N.Y. Tucker started the company, called Main Street Connect, with his wife Jane Bryant Quinn, the nationally-known commentator on personal finance.

MSC plans to meet the need for local news in an online format in towns across the country. The couple chose Fairfield County for the first sites, Tucker said, because its "communities are an ideal place to explore the potential of our vision. They range from the small rural town of Easton to a mid-sized city like Stamford -- all of them filled with people who are highly engaged in their town's success."

MSC rolled out the first site, TheDailyNorwalk.com, six months ago. TheDailyWilton, the fifth site, launched on May 24. Today, the group encompasses 10 communities. The number of visitors going to each of the sites has risen every week, Tucker said. The past few days have been record-setting, with more than 4,000 visitors per day.

Tucker, a longtime Rotarian, said he is thrilled to be speaking to the Wilton Rotary Club. "Rotary is what community is all about," he added. The club meets every Friday at 12:15 p.m. This Friday's meeting will be at Marley's of Wilton.
