Panel Will Help Biz Women Build Buzz

Jane Bryant Quinn, editorial director of this and nine other online news sites in Fairfield County, is one of the headline panelists for "Women Building Buzz," a seminar for small business owners at the Fairfield Museum and History Center on Wednesday, Nov. 10.

Quinn, a nationally known personal finance writer, will appear with Emmy Award-winning former ABC News producer Shelley Ross, public relations expert Wendy Marx and social media specialist Kathryn Rose.

"We wanted to offer aggressive businesswomen a nuts and bolts education right from the trenches about how to effectively market their business in an exploding social networking jungle, which affects how they have to build awareness," said Kathy McShane, head of the Ladies Who Launch southwestern Connecticut branch, which is sponsoring the event.

The panel aims to teach small business owners how to use the media to get publicity for their work. The four panelists combined have nearly 100 years in experience in journalism and marketing.

In addition to her role as editorial director of this site's parent company, Main Street Connect, Quinn has written three best-selling books on personal finance. Her columns have appeared in more than 250 newspapers, as well as in Newsweek, Bloomberg, Good Housekeeping and Woman's Day. She also hosted two PBS programs, "Take Charge!" and "Beyond Wall Street."

Ross was the top producer for ABC-TV's "Good Morning America" and won three Emmys and a Peabody Award for her work.

Marx is president of her own marketing firm, Marx Communications. She has specialized in business-to-business marketing and public relations for more than 20 years.

Rose, managing director of EMP Social, has written six books on social media. She'll talk about search engine optimization (SEO) and mobile marketing.

The event takes place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at 370 Beach Road in Fairfield. Tickets are $35 or $20 for Ladies Who Launch strata members. McShane says 40 women from around the county have already signed up, but there is still space left. Reservations can be made at the Ladies Who Launch Web site or at (203) 803-9591.
